Our design brief was to remove a couple of tonnes from a passenger aircraft. No mean feat.
Looking at the wings, they're pretty heavy. Limit passengers to one piece of hand luggage that's no bigger than a hand? What about getting rid of all the peanuts?
There was one sensible solution. If we could remove the air conditioning units that keep the galley trolleys cool for the journey, that would be a huge weight saving.
By creating a super insulated galley cart, with the panels filled with some of the most advanced insulating material Aerogel, we could keep the cool stuff cool, and the hot stuff hot.
